Welcome to our Team Blog! Marie Antoinette & Edie Marie have joined together to create a fun place to share our ideas and lives with all of you. We know that our teaming up has been confusing for some of you and we apologize. We will refer to ourselves as Marie Antoinette (the Doll Creator & maker of fabulous items) who lives in Peacock Paradise and Edie Marie (the creator of the posts and story telling on this blog & amateur crafter of many things in my "attic") who lives on Golden Pond. What great fun we have combining our forces!!

Thank you for stopping by to see what's happening in our studios in Peacock Paradise and on Golden Pond!

My Anniversary and I Had a Secret...UPDATE!!!... GOOD NEWS

 April 28,2010
Hello everyone!!! I have some good news to share.
Remember Gabriella Delworth http://gabrieladelworth.com/ Marie De Fete Party last Nov?
Would you believe that party got picked up by the Artful Blogging Magazine, Summer issue 2010. And yes its on stands now. I don't have a copy as of yet, I had to send off for it...but Gabriella was good enough to send me a scan. I'm so excited!
As you know if you read my post below, that I sent in two dolls last Spring to Art Doll Quarterly. And yes they turn me down. I find that quite amusing that one of my other dolls got into one of ADQ's sister magazines. I owe it to Gabriella of course.  Thank you Gabriella

Hello good people of blogland,
I had an anniversary,  April 2nd. Yes!!! 38 yrs of wedded ups and downs. Thats right! Not all marriages are picture perfect. But I stayed in for the long haul...LOL.
We had a wonderful day. My hubby bought something for me i've been wanting for a long time. An antique baby pram. Ever since I got my old Tiny Tears doll and the vintage baby doll from http://idyllhours.blogspot.com/...I wanted to put them in an old pram.
We found one in the next town over in Slidell La. in an antique mall.
Its from about 1913. There is not much info on it. But it is in very good condition for wicker. All I did was clean it up for I did not want to decrease the value of it. I like it the way it is. I just made a linner for it. Can't let the babies sit on bare wicker, now can we.
Here are some before and after pics.
I took this picture outside in front of my blooming Wisteria  tree.

I was going to post some Spring time pictures of my home, but something has happened and I wanted to let you know about it.
I had a secret! It did not turn out to well, but i'm not going to cry and booHoo about it cause it doen't change a thing .

Last June and August I had submitted to dolls to Art doll Quarterly. Those were the submission dates. I had two send in the dolls. My dolls are very big vignettes. So it cost me a pretty penny. You see you also had to send them the return shipping. I prayed and prayed they get accepted. I kept this from all of you because I did not want to be embarressed and I also did not want to put a jinx on them... just in case. Well just in case did happen and they were not excepted. Though they kept them for a long time. They told me they could not place them. So be it ! I will just put them on Etsy.
The first doll I submitted is different from all the others. It is not Marie Antoinette.
Its a Victorian lady, holding a tea pot and cup and saucer.
On the inside is a Victorian Cat Family. I'm sure most of you have seen these paper dolls.
What I did was after cutting them out and putting them on heavier paper...I repainted (glitzed them up), put lace and stuff on them.I arranged them in a room with Victorian toys and such.It was hard for me to take pictures of it.

The second doll actually my very first marie Antoinette doll. I just could not tell you all that.
This doll has two minuet figurines playing instruments. This is the first time I used the backrounds for these theater dolls. Its a print of a grand ball room and I made it into a panoramic view. The figurines , I got on Ebay. They are from Japan. Here are the two vignettes.
Well now my secret is out,  and I can take a deep breath and say...I tried.
What more can you do but try again.

Till next time my friends ,Hugs and kisses all around.

  1. Happy anniversary and I am so glad you submitted those dolls! Don't ever stop because you are such a tremendous talent. I love knowing you! Hugs to you and your hubby! I love that baby pram! I have a cradle, my uncle use to say he was the first to sleep in it and he was born in 1908! I have that cradle. I want to put some baby dolls in it. It is a piece of my heritage that I love!

  4. Happy Anniversary, that is wonderful! And what a gift! That pram is amazing, the perfect place for your babies!

I'm so sorry you didn't get accepted in the magazine but at least you tried! The answer is always no until you try, right? Most people don't even bother to submit, you did a brave thing! Keep on trying!

  7. Happy Anniversary - and lucky you with such a special anniversary gift!

Sorry to hear that your dolls weren't accepted. That's always tough to hear. Was this your first submission? I submit two or three pieces a month, and have done that for about 8 years - I get rejected about 1/3 of the time.

Your work is just gorgeous - and so clever and creative - keep at it! Making beautiful things is never a mistake!

Congrats on your anniversary, those things are the most important things in life, especially when hubby gives you presents like that hehehe! That pram is spectacular! And that wisteria is so beautiful! What a photo of the two of them together. Now on the harsh part: well you tried! 11. Happy Anniversary darling, wishing you many more blissful years. Darling, the pram is so adorable, I always wanted to own one, may be someday. Enjoy yours in good health. Darling the people at Art Doll Quarterly clearly don’t deserve to hold their positions within the organizations. One look at your dolls and it is obvious who the winner should be. You are a winner in my world.

    Love & Hugs

  12. hey Marie... happy belated..... I'm way behind....

don't worry about a rejection.... it happens all the time as most of your commenters have mentioned. I'm not sure ADQ is even the best place for some our works.... they don't seem to like beautiful. HOnestly. Every time I look in that mag I see some of the ugliest things I've ever seen in doll making.. mostly I don't buy it.... except if there is some technique that I am interested in trying and it actually explains a bit about it. .

Next time.... send a smaller not quite so pretty piece.... you'll see it in the next edition...

  13. Hi Darling Sis!

We have internet again!! I have missed you sooo much! Your pram is so gorgeous and looks perfect in front of that incredible wisteria. And as for the magazine... they don't know what they're missin'. Your dolls are more beautiful than any I've ever seen!! They are show stoppers in my book.
We've got a million boxes to go through and unpack and get rid of "stuff". So back to the drawing board. Will get you pics when I have 2 minutes!! We're exhausted.

I luvs ya girl!!! The aged one

  14. Happy Anniversary sweet Toni!
That pram is a jewel. Imagine the babies that lay in it.

Your dolls are stunning. You put so much love into making them and it shows. You have to take that first step and you did. Keep going girl.

    big hugs,

  15. Hello my Dear Friend, A big Congrats on your wedding anniversary. I simply love seeing your pram and how your added tne lace. So gorgeous.
As for the dolls. You certainly know how I feel about the whole thing and I prayed too, but sometimes God has a better plan and that might be the case here. Your dolls are amazing and come from a talent deep in your heart. Keep in mind, some of the best written books by talenedt authors were turned down many times before they were really noticed. It is only a matter of time sweetie.
You have a great attitude and that's why we all love you so.

Glad you had a great anniversary. We are right behind you with 37 coming up in August.
    Talk to you soon.
    Love ya, Celestina Marie

as for the doll submission, their loss, I would have bought the magazine if you were in it.....too bad. At least you tried! I can't believe they turned you down, your dolls are a work of art and the best thing that would have ever graced the pages of their magazine.
    Never stop trying, right?
Hope you are feeling well, glad to hear your anniversary was special. Look at all the great comments, we all love your dolls!!!

  18. Dear Marie Antoinette!

Belatedly a Happy Anniversary - coincidentally the SAME date as mine! (My husband didn't want to marry on April 1 as that's April Fool's Day in the UK & he thought nobody would come to the wedding thinking it was an A.F's joke!!)

Thanks for stopping by - only aliens I've come across are at my bank & at the IRS!!

    Have a lovely weekend!

  19. Marie Antoinette my dearest,

It is so good to see you and your gorgeous art again!!! Your pram is fabulous, you must be so thrilled with it! The little girl in us never leaves; always wanting to dress up, play house, arrange out dolls....I love this life and your work is so exquisite. As I look at your theatres, it just makes me so excited because I am always thinking of what I can do in my little theatre. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary!! Yes, it is a long haul, but the sweet times outdo the difficult times....I hope you are well, and have you heard from Sherry? I do know that she has been in the moving process....I miss her so! Stay well dear one, and thank you for coming to my party!!!

    Fondly, Anita

  20. Oh sweet one! Next time you speak to Sherry, send her my love! I had spoken to her a couple of times several months back and what a treat it was...I have long since lost her number, but tell her I am thinking of her. I didn't think she was getting to her emails...OH, how I wish I could meet you both. When you see her, you are going to have such fun. I am going to Calif. in June to meet up with family and friends and two blogger pals!!!!! THIS IS SO FUN....Love to you, Anita

  32. Hello Marie~I was tickled pink to see you came by for a visit.
    HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!
I got a chuckle when you said hubby has retired and it was taking a little "adjusting."
My hubs not retired "yet", but he works from home.
Like an under wire bra I'm "still" adjusting, lol!! He's thinkin' about retiring when he hits 55 in a couple years, but I've been discouraging it, cause I think he'd be to bored and when he's bored I'm the target for entertainment and blogging with me wouldn't be his choice of a fun way to pass the time...go figure.

I adore the baby pram, especially with your babies sitting pretty inside their buggie.

Oh my goodness...I never thought I could have a favorite doll amongst your collection but...the Marie Antoinette doll took my breath away, her beauty captured my heart. The real magic is when the light is on and you see the fine details of the performers.
You may have not been picked up this time but....the future is unwritten.
    Hope to see you soon.
    Sweet wishes,
    Sara
