CREATIONS BY MARIE ANTOINETTE & EDIE MARIE

Welcome to our Team Blog! Marie Antoinette & Edie Marie have joined together to create a fun place to share our ideas and lives with all of you. We know that our teaming up has been confusing for some of you and we apologize. We will refer to ourselves as Marie Antoinette (the Doll Creator & maker of fabulous items) who lives in Peacock Paradise and Edie Marie (the creator of the posts and story telling on this blog & amateur crafter of many things in my "attic") who lives on Golden Pond. What great fun we have combining our forces!!

Thank you for stopping by to see what's happening in our studios in Peacock Paradise and on Golden Pond!

EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN!

Have you ever heard that phrase?

It may be an old phrase but as I have
observed things through life
it's actually true.

I've watched time after time some old
trend in style or decor to reappear
like an unwelcome ghost!
Okay... sometimes it's good.

I love some of the old things!
I recently found these gorgeous
sewing machine drawers in their
encasements.

They were at our local antique mall,
and were priced at $12.00 per set...
I almost fainted!
They run from $30 and up
per set for plain ones with no
carving or curves.

The drawers were full of junk
part of it being old sewing machine
belts and newspaper liners.

What a surprise it was to find a French
cartoon in the bottom of one drawer!

Two liners put together revealed that
Lawrence Welk was coming to town
for a performance! Who knew??

Hubby and I recently discovered an
incredible salvage yard in Columbus called
Having owned an old home built in 1902,
we were in awe of the beautiful pieces of
homes & history that had been
saved from destruction.

One of my favorite pieces was this
stained glass "Church Window"
that was priced at $2,250.
Needless to say I did NOT bring
it home with me!

The Bowling Alley was a mere
$1250. But the Vintage Fan was
a bargain for $85. (Yes it worked)

 This wonderful Vintage Typewriter,
in working condition with ribbon
in place was around $250.

A wire basket contained lots of
Vintage Street Signs that were
$30 each. It was fun to see many
familiar street names that have
been a part of my life.

I was totally shocked that this sign
was priced at $289!
See, women are valuable!!

 Ornate radiators go for around
$525. Yikes!

You can buy a Barn Door...

 a Horse Stall Door...

or a Jail Cell Door just to mention
a few!

Here's an idea -
put Grandma's old clothes pins
in an apothecary jar to display!

I was excited to find this "Singer"
Street Sign...

 to compliment this Vintage Singer
Sewing Machine! Wouldn't that
look clever to have the street sign
mounted above the machine?

Need a newel?
They range from $75 - $1750!!

We had a wonderful time going on
a trip through time back to the "old things".
 Thank you Columbus Architectural Salvage
for allowing me to take photos in your shop!

Now back to my new/old drawers,
hmmmm...

I'm thinking about painting these white.
I love that worn shabby painted look.
I also have other sewing machine drawers
that I could paint to unify their look.

Then putting a wood piece on top
of them to make them one piece.
(These ball feet are gorgeous!)

Then I could utilize the top to
set something else on it.

Here's a very unexpected use of
a sewing machine drawer frame.
a Wine Cabinet! Now that's thinking
outside the box isn't it?

It's going to be used in my studio,
I'm just not sure for what yet.
You know how that goes!

So stay tuned for a future post on the
Vintage Sewing Machine Drawer !

Blessings to each & every one of you -
Edie Marie

  7. I loved seeing all the finds! My son just bought his wife a horse and I couldn't help but notice the barn door and stall door! They live nearby, Could that be the starting point for decorating a room? When they were just dating a few years ago I gave her my Singer treadle...So that Singer RD sign would be adorable as you suggested!

So now something new...I'm your newest follower!

  9. I use my late mother-in-law's old sewing machine table with my new machine on top of it. The drawers in her piece are gorgeous with beautiful architectural pieces on the side of it. Keep thinking I am going to paint the whole think white but just haven't had the time yet. We have an architectural firm in town that I love to go to. It has the most gorgeous antique pieces in it but their prices are sky high. You ladies have a wonderful week. xo

  12. Edie Marie,
The sewing machine drawers are gorgeous. I love the natural wood they are. The deign on them is so pretty. And that singer sewing machine!! My mom used to sew all my clothes growing up, so this put a smile on my face. I also like the stained glass with the crown. I love "old things" too. They are so priceless and special. I don't know if you're familiar with the blog Ivy and Elephants, but they are always showing the most gorgeous old treasures on their blog. They are sweet gals too.

Now, I'm anxious to see what you'll do with these fabulous drawers.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  20. Those drawers are gorgeous! How amazing to find the old French cartoons too!

I definitely think they will look amazing painted white and I love the idea of putting a piece of board on top to make a little table:)

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this but, I think you had asked if I was close to Lake City, FL. We're actually in SW Florida and I believe Lake City is up north, close to Jacksonville.

Can't wait to see what you decide on the drawers and thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your lovely comments:) Hugs!

  21. YES! Or rather, OUI!!!!

Edie Marie, I love your purchase here, and to paint them white, especially with the beautiful carving, will really be textured and worn with your painting touch! And the little French "bande-dessiné" is fun!!!

We have several architectual salvage places here and one of the best is in my neighborhood! But you do have to have a chunk 'o change to spend but it's fun to look and get ideas.

Thank you my dear for coming to visit! I am glad you are enjoying your life on Golden Pond; that is the aim, to live our lives with the happiest of attitude. BLESSINGS TO YOU MY DEAR!! Anita
